privacy & cookies

Tattypuss is committed to protecting your privacy. At the same time we endeavor to use any data we collect to help us provide the best possible service. The details are set out below.

Privacy policy

This privacy policy sets out how Tattypuss uses and protects any information that we might obtain when you use our website.
Tattypuss is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.
Tattypuss may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy was amended on 16th May 2018 to comply with the General Data Protection Regulations 2018 (GDPR) . It is effective from that date.

We do not store any credit card details nor do we share customer details with any 3rd parties. All card and payment details bypass our site completely and are transmitted directly from you to the secure portal of our payment processor.

Information we may retain:

When you place an order, the information you enter, such as your name, email address, billing address,  etc will be stored within the order. The other information that is stored is as follows: IP address, its host name and its country location, the type of device used, such as mobile or desktop, the date and time the order was placed, your payment method, the cost of the order, the shipping method, any activity on the order - such as the date and time the order was completed by our staff, the products you ordered.
This data is important to enable us to fulfill our contractual obligations to you, and to provide you with a service that you should reasonably expect. Under GDPR 2018, the 'lawful basis' under which we retain and use this data is 'legitimate Interest' (Articles 5(2) and 24).

What we do with this information:

We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, in particular for the following reasons:
  • To enable us to comply with legislation and provide customer service. (E.g. to enable us to deal with refunds and returns)
  • For internal record keeping.
  • We may use the information to improve our products and services.
  • To date we have not done so - but in the future we may send promotional emails about new products, special offers or other information which we think you may find interesting using the email address which you have provided.
  • In the future we may contact you for market research purposes.
  • We may use information to customise this website.

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
This complete website is secure. You will see that the web address starts with 'https://' rather than "http://". This means that all data travelling between you and us is encrypted and secured to internationally accepted standards.

When you input information via this website (e.g. when making a purchase), that information is stored in a remote, secure server and is not held directly by Tattypuss.
Following our Privacy Policy review in May 2018, we no longer keep printed records of customers' orders; however, for a very short period of time a printed record (order confirmation or dispatch note) will be printed. This will be forwarded to you with your order.

About cookies

  • Cookies are small files which allow web applications to respond to you as an individual (for example when auto-completing forms).
  • Cookies help us improve our website by enabling us to ascertain which items customers find useful.
  • Cookies in no way gives us access to your computer or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us. You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can modify your browser settings to decline cookies if you prefer. This may prevent you from taking full advantage of some websites.

The use of cookies

Regulations regarding the use of cookies came into force on 28th May 2012. GDPR though, has an affect on our use of cookies. There are two important rules.

  1. A website must give an explanation of the cookies they use unless those cookies are strictly essential for the purpose of providing the service.
  2. When visiting a website, the user consents to the use of any cookies on the website.
  3. GDPR changed the rules regarding cookies and dictated that we obtain your specific permission in relation to the use of cookies. We are now introducing a facility to streamline this.
Cookies used by Tattypuss fall into the essential category. The law states that we do not have to give you the details of these: however if you are interested (or concerned) the details are below.

Tattypuss uses two cookies. Both fall into the 'essential category'.

  1. The first remembers you as you browse our website. Without this you would not be able to navigate, and (e.g.) any items you placed in a shopping basket would be instantly forgotten.
  2. The second cookie remembers essential information that you have entered into the website when you return. Without this you would need to constantly re-enter the same details each time you visited the site.
Tattypuss also uses software supplied by Google which gives us information such as the number of people visiting the webpage, the country of origin of visitors etc. This software does not identify or retain any personal details and is similar to an anonymous survey. We regard this as essential to provide the service.

Additionally (and finally) there are links on our website to others e.g. Facebook, Twitter etc. When you click these links you may be forwarded to the website in question which will potentially deal with cookies in a different way to Tattypuss. We have no control over this and ask you to visit the privacy policy of the website concerned.

Controlling your personal information

Please contact us if you have specific instructions regarding the use of your personal data.
We will never sell or lease your personal information to third parties. We will not distribute your data to others unless we are obliged by law to do so, or unless we have your specific permission or instruction.
You may request details of personal information we hold about you under the Data Protection Act 1998. A small fee will be payable. If you would like a copy of the information held on you please write to us at the address show on our contact us page.
If you believe that any information we hold on you is incorrect or incomplete, please write to us or email us as soon as possible at the above address. We will promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.

Thank you for visiting Tattypuss.
